Summer Songs

Summer Songs - These songs get me in the mood for summer and I play them through out the entire summer while laying in the sun or driving in my car!

"Boys of Summer" by Don Henley - This ex-Eagle wrote an iconic summer anthem in 1985. This song was well played in 1985 and had a very visual video that also played constantly that year. It won an MTV Video of the year too. I keep remembering the volleyball players jumping up and down. Here's the first few lyrics from the song "Nobody on the road, nobody on the beach.I feel it in the air, the summer's out of reach" I hope the summer will be in reach for us.

"Summertime Thing" by Chuck Prophet - This super cool summer vibe song came out in 2002. Here's a taste of the lyrics, "That summer heat has got me feeling lazy, The air is warm and the sky is hazy, People getting down, getting crazy People getting down, getting stupid, betting crazy." The summer heat will do that to you! But it feels like summer.

"Soak up The Sun" by Sheryl Crow - This cool summery song from 2009 was also a big hit that year with her surf vibe video and all. Here's some fun lyrics, "I'm gonna soak up the sun, Gonna tell everyone,To lighten up (I'm gonna tell 'em that) I've got no one to blame."

"Summer Breeze" by Seals and Crofts - This oh so breezy and summery song from 1972 makes me travel back to my high school years which were in the last 70's lying out on the beach looking cool. Here's some pretty lyrics, "Summer breeze, makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine in my mind." And I love the smell of jasmine on a hot summer's day.

"Cruel Summer" by Ace of Bases - This song from 1983 was featured in a chick surf movie. Check out some lyrics, "It's a cruel ... cruel ... cruel summer, Leaving me here on my own, Now you've gone."

"Summertime Blue" by Eddie Cochrane or Brian Setzer - This song from 1958 and 1990 was a cool Rockabilly hit. Here are some lyrics, "I'd like to help you son but you're too young to vote" Sometimes I wonder what I'm a gonna do, But there ain't no cure for the summertime blues." There is NO cure for the summertime blues. Just enjoy it while it lasts.

"Bubble Toes" by Jack Johnson - This Jack Johnson from 2005 makes me think of putting my toes in the sand but the song is not about that at all. Here goes the real lyrics," It's as simple as something that nobody knows that, Her eyes are as big as her bubbly toes."

"Island Girl" by Elton John - This rockin' song from 1975 has an island vibe to it. Here's some lyrics,"Island girl What you wanting with the white man's world, Island girl." I always wished I could be an island girl growing up.

"Free" by Jack Johnson and Donovan Frankenreiter - This Hawaiian sounding song from 2005 has a cool ukulele sound and makes me think of summer and tropical places. Here are some lyrics,"Well we could, let this love be the fading sky, And we could, drift all night until the new sunrise. And we'll be free, free, free, free." Summer is when I feel very free.

"Surfer Girl" by The Beach Boys - This classic summer song from 1963 epitomizes summer and girls. Let's sample some sweet lyrics,"We could ride the surf together, While our love would grow, In my Woody I would take you everywhere I go So I say from me to you, Surfer girl, my little surfer girl. My brother used to tease me about being a surfer girl in high school.

Rainy Day Songs

Rainy Day Songs - Mood music for my least favorite time, a rainy day. But is dedicated to my hubby Steve who loves the rain.

"Rainy Days and Mondays" by the Carpenters 1974 My first rainy day song, I must have been a tween or teen back then. Here's a lyrics sampling, "Sometimes I'd like to quit, Nothing ever seems to fit, Hangin' around, Nothing to do but frown, Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down." Kind of haunting with Karen's passing many years ago.

"Love Reign O'er Me" by The Who 1976. This is a beautiful Who song with nice rain sound effects in it. Take a listen to some of the lyrics,"Only love, Can bring the rain, That makes you yearn to the sky, Only love, Can bring the rain, That falls like tears from on high, Love Reign O'er me." You can almost feel the rain o'er you in this song.

"Have You Ever Seen the Rain" by Creedence Clear Revival 1970 his song is older then the Carpenters but I was not hip enough to like Creedence back then. Here's their lyrics, "When it's over, so they say, it'll rain a sunny day. I know, shinin' down like water. I want to know, have you ever seen the rain?" While doing my research on them, I did not realize how many good songs they have like Bad Moon Rising and Fortuant Son.

"I'm only happy when it rains" by Garbage - 1997 A cool band like Garbage writing about the rain. My husband got me into this song. He adores the rain. Let's sample some lyrics, "I'm only happy when it's complicated, And though I know you can't appreciate it, I'm only happy when it rains."

"November Rain" by Guns 'n Roses - 1992 Such an epic song for it's time. Here's a sample of the lyrics, "I could rest my head just knowin' that you were mine, all mine So if you want to love me then darlin' don't refrain, Or I'll just end up walkin' in the cold November rain."

"No Rain" by Blind Melon - This catchy 1993 song was in high rotation on the radio and MTV. It had a really cute video with a little girl dressed in a bumble bee costume. Sadly, the lead singer died of an overdose in 2006. Here's some lyrics to ponder, "And I don't understand why I sleep all day, And I start to complain that there's no rain."

"Shadows in the Rain" by Sting - This 1985 song played a lot on the radio from his first solo effort. Here's some of his lyrics, "And if you see us on the corner, We're just dancing in the rain."

"It Never rains in California" by Albert Hammond - This 1972 song has childhood memories for me. And especially since I live in California it relates to me (well grew up in Southern California, now currently living in Northern California). Here's some lyrics,"Seems it never rains in Southern California, Seems I've often heard that kind of talk before, It never rains in California, But girl, don't they warn ya, It pours man it pours." Well it truly doesn't really pour here in California, only rarely. That's why I live in California.

"I Hear the Rain" by Violent Femmes - This great folk punk band had this song in 1984. Here are some lyrics, "I hear the rain. I hear the rain. I hear the rain. Got to kill the pain." I wonder how singer Gordon Ganos kills his pain.

"Sound of the Rain" by Rank and File/Dils - This great cow punk band had a song about the rain too that came out also in 1984. Not many people know of this cool band. Here's some lyrics "Oh, the rainfalls down upon my head, those words that you heard, I wish I'd have said."

"Rain in the Summer" by The Alarm - This 1984 song hit a big indie hit. Here are some lyrics, " Our love is the faith that keeps on burning, I love to feel the rain in the summertime, I love to feel the rain on my face.
